The Monk on the Mountain

Oh, tell me the tale of the Monk on the Mountain. 

They say the Goddess of Ashes, great and wonderful Geha, has kept her gaze on the Earth even in the time past Gods. She watches and waits, for the day that one whom is worthy shall claim her powers. Geha has many disciples, they who keep her temple and guard her treasures, they who are strong and resilient, obedient to her ancient word, but none that she can deem worthy of her power. 

Then came He. 

His hair was the color of Autumn Flame and his skin was dark. When he trained among the others he moved swiftly, as though he had learned from the rivers themselves. His muscles and bones held him strong and sturdy, standing tall like an oak. Yet it was none of these features that drew the goddess near. For the bright haired monk had a light heart and eyes shining with the brilliance of life. His lips wove stories of make believe and grandeur, and he spoke with a wisdom beyond his years. 

For years he remained devout and true to his following of the Goddess of Ashes. Until the day that love claimed him. A woman with hair the color of lavender flowers stole away his heart and off the monk would sneak, night after night, to meet the love whom he held dear. A child was born from their union, and oh how the bright haired monk did love the small boy. Yet, the temples and monasteries were all he knew, he could not leave them behind. 

"Let me raise the boy." He pleaded to his dearest love to teach the baby their ways, and when the boy was old enough to walk and read and write they would be together. So his love agreed and left to await the day that her lover and son would return to her. 

The boy grew and he learned the ways of the monks like his father. Soon they would reunite with the lavender haired beauty, but the Dark Day that fell over the mountain villages prevented a happy reunion from ever coming to pass. Hordes of creatures from the deepest pits attacked all in sight. The monks were to remain at the temple atop the mountain and guard the Orb of Ashes, Geha's most valuable treasure, but the bright haired monk abandoned his post to find his son. Through the burning villages he ran, calling for his little boy, and only when the chaos had settled and the smoke did clear was it unveiled the horror that had been wrought that night. 

The boy had fallen, like so many others that he knew. 

It was there that Geha found the monk, weeping and cradling his lost child among all of the destruction. 

"From the ashes rises new life." She spoke, appearing to the monk, an extending her hand. Geha had found He who was worthy, and so she took him away to her realm to learn the ways of her Ash Magic, but in him the light was dim and faded, his heart was heavy and his eyes were no longer bright. 

Oh, tell me the tale of the Monk on the Mountain.

Okay, so originally this was just going to be a fast doodle to give the idea of what most of Luka's tattoos looked like and then... all of this happened... 

*sobs* I'm sorry I'm so mean to you Luka! But, now you know a bit more about his past! It was fun to write it like that x3

EDIT: Almost forgot! I used several reference images while drawing this, mostly images depicting males in martial arts stances. There were several images that I looked at for body positioning and muscles, so if it looks similar please don't think that I stole it or traced it, I may have simply used it as a guide for positioning his arms/hands, and how to draw the muscles etc. Thank you!
